In or Out? We’ve got you covered

From movie dens to DIY cinema teepees, we have been pretty impressed by the indoor set-ups you have created and shared with us on Instagram.

But now, with Boris’ roadmap out of lockdown going to plan, we can meet in gardens under the Rule of 6. And with summer just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to take those indoor set-ups outside, to reunite with friends and create those garden vibes that just seem to hit differently.

Not only will you get to choose what films you watch and who you invite, but you'll also benefit from front-row seats, the food and drink of your choice, and you won’t have to worry about awkwardly telling someone that they’ve taken your seat.

We know that creating the perfect garden set-up is easier said than done. The tricky part is the tech behind it all, but with our Home Edition Box equipped with projector, remote control and 72’’ screen, we have that covered.

But, as cinema set-up gurus, we also thought we’d put together a Garden Cinema Toolkit of tips to help add the finishing touches to immerse your guests into an ambient night of movie magic.

  • Find the perfect spot

  • If you have a terrace, a patio, an acre of land or a little sun trap, inspect your garden and be sure to choose the perfect spot to start creating your outdoor cinema. We suggest choosing a spot not too far away from access to a toilet, and remember, if you’re the host you’ll also want quick access to drinks and snacks for your guests!

  • Make your guests comfy

  • There’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable during a movie. You might already have a set of outdoor furniture, but if not, set the right mood with cosy bean bag chairs, or grab some big cushions to let your guests sit back and relax. If you’re doing it on a budget, grab some camping chairs, jazz them up with a funky cushion and pretend you’re at Glastonbury!

  • Beat the chill

  • It may be getting warmer, but when the sun goes down it does get chilly. There’s nothing quite like a firepit to keep you warm and toasty. Toast some marshmallows, sit back, and create some Love Island ambience.

If you don’t have a firepit, no problem! Just hand out the blankets and get cosy. Don’t let the chill put you off; it’s all a part of the outdoor cinema experience.

  • Lights

  • When in doubt, just hang up fairy lights.

They can turn any space into a spot of magical relaxation. To really give your outdoor cinema that edge of sophistication, we recommend hanging them around the projector screen.

  • Confectionary

  • Lay out the popcorn and sweets included in your Home Edition Box and enjoy not having to worry about annoying strangers in the cinema with your rustling of sweet wrappers. As for drinks, either an ice bucket or mini fridge will do the job. If you’re feeling really creative, you could set up a little cinema bar using pallets and a lick of paint.

  • Action

  • So you’re all set up. The sun is setting, the fairy lights are twinkling, you’re toasty by the fire, cocktail in one hand, popcorn in the other.

Now all you need is the perfect movie to match the ambience.

How about watching A Star Is Born for a romantic movie date under the stars, or a bit of Mama Mia for a girl’s night in sing along, or what about making it a weekly affair for the upcoming Love Island series?

The possibilities are endless when you are in control of your own cinema!
